Prior to the demolition of Three Rivers Stadium,
FRC removed environmentally hazardous materials so
that they would not be released into the
environment during demolition. FRC removed,
packaged and recycled more than 10,000 fluorescent
light tubes and the PCB ballasts from these light
fixtures. FRC also characterized, packaged and
removed paints, cleaning chemicals and other
miscellaneous hazardous materials that were used
in the operation of the stadium. Finally, FRC was
responsible for removing chlorofluorocarbons
(CFCs) from refrigerators, air conditioning units,
water fountains and beer coolers throughout the
stadium and properly recycling these compounds.
