Construction of a new access road and bridge into
a western Pennsylvania locks and dam required the
collection and treatment of stormwater that was
contaminated by slag and other hazardous materials
on the property. FRC constructed and operated a
50 gpm water treatment system that removed
sediment, manganese, organic compounds and zinc to
meet NPDES permit requirements for a discharge to
the river. In addition to the treatment plant
construction and operation, FRC was responsible
for off-site disposal of more than 20,000 cubic
yards of contaminated soil and overall
environmental control throughout the two-year
project.
