Two perishable food warehouses each used more than
10,000 pounds of ammonia in their refrigeration
systems, causing them to be regulated under the
USEPA's then-new risk management regulations. FRC
worked with facility safety and engineering
personnel to identify process hazards for the
process safety management programs. FRC
calculated potential off-site consequences of an
ammonia release and prepared emergency response
plans for both facilities detailing procedures for
minimizing the effects of an ammonia release. FRC
helped plan and conduct public meetings to convey
the contents of the plans to interested parties.
Finally, FRC recently participated in the
five-year review of the plans.
