A intermodal transporter of hazardous and
low-level radioactive waste needed a new facility
to transfer hazardous soils from truck to rail for
transcontinental transport. FRC worked with the
client and railroad to lay out the facility,
including a modular truck ramp, structural steel
bridge, and unloading hopper inside a 50-foot high
pre-engineered fabric covered frame structure.
Borings indicated two layers of peat below the
site. Therefore, settlement-critical portions of
the structure were placed on deep foundations.
FRC prepared bid drawings and specifications,
assisted in selection of a general contractor, and
provided general assistance throughout the
construction project.
